Good question. I know looking at an LCD monitor for a while strains my eyes. Looking at an older CRT monitor never did.
My personal opinion is that LCDs are harder on the eyes than plasmas or CRTs.

It all matters what you like and where you'll be watching the TV. An LCD is good if you'll be watching it in a lit room. A plasma would perform better in a dark room. Also if you sit within 2 feet of the TV (which you shouldn't) then you'd want a small TV between 16" and 23". the bigger the TV the further back you should sit.

I heard that if you are 10 feet away you need a forty-sixty inch screen if your further get a bigger screen.

Any tv that comes with ambient lighting will make watching tv easier on the eyes. Most philip lcds have them and other brands are getting the feature. Other options would be any sony due to their cloudy screen. From first hand experience i think plasmas are overall easier to watch than lcds and tubes though.
