I agree with Sopiesm and would give them the benefit of the doubt. I would introduce myself, welcome them to the building and mention the door slamming nicely. I might not want to mention it when I first talk with them, but would play that by ear. I do think it best to discuss this sort of thing in person, if possible. I might find out that they're great folks, and that they would feel badly if they realized they were being disruptive. Hopefully that would be the case, as it's a shame not to have a good relationship with your neighbors. One reason I have not moved is because I have such great neighbors. It really makes a difference!

They might not know it.

Are you in an apartment complex? Or is this a neighbor as in the house beside you?

IMO, if its an apartment, that is apartment life.

If its a house, then it sounds as though it is TOO loud and being slammed. Talk to your neighbor about it (if its a house).

I have old neighbors next door, who slam their car doors constanty. The man, goes to church every morning at 6am, he goes to the car... alone.... and proceeds to open and slam each of the 4 doors and the trunk, before getting in the car to drive off.. upon return, he does the same thing.. each time he gets in the car.. he does the same thing.

This has been going on for 11 years, talking to them does no good.

Maybe the locking mechanism doesn't catch all the way and they have to give it an additional push or tug to get it closed all the way.
This is especially true if the area in front of the door is carpeted.

Maybe suggest some felt weather stripping around the door to your neighbors.
Since you live in an apartment, you can't choose who your neighbors are.

I'd go over and introduce myself, and ask if something is wrong with the door, that it takes a slamm to close it. (this might be the problem). then, tell her how you feel about it, and take care of it..

nip this stuff in the bud, really, dont wait it out.

We live in a house behind a 100 year old house. They own both houses. They keep going into the basement of our house and slam the door going in and then going back out. Our bedroom is right above the door and sometimes it almost knocks me out of bed. Not much can be done unless we want to cause strife.

I'm guessing you live in an apartment? Slamming a door is not against the law, just annoying. There's not a lot you can do except get to know them and then casually say, "I wonder who that is that keeps slamming their door all the time? It's really annoying." Chances are they'll take the hint. Good luck.

I would just send them a friendly note. Keep it brief and polite, something like, "Welcome to the neighborhood! We're so happy to have new neighbors! However, we have noticed loud door slamming and wanted to bring it to your attention as you're probably unaware of how loud it is. We appreciate your consideration! :-)"....something like that. If I were you, I'd be as friendly as possible.

I had that exact same problem; it was just ridiculous, you never heard such a slam I can't believe their door never fell off the hinges. I disliked them so I never sid anything.
