Perhaps so, although following the "after therefore because" logic, we would see a shocking increase in childhood lead poisoning. Perhaps heavy metal poisoning is God's way of rapturing the pious extra-soon.
That would explain why it went up slightly over the past couple of years. It's not China; it's President Bush.

Oh please! This is ridiculous! You don't HAVE to worship the Christian God y'know! I mean seriously! They're not telling the kids to worship Him! Soon, we won't be allowed to have Churches. Then, we won't be allowed to have religious schools because we need to include everyone. Tis kind of stuff really pisses me off. Freedom OF religion (or lack thereof) NOT freedom FROM religion. I think each religion should be treated equally. Just not forced on people. When it comes to prayer in school, I think each child should pray how they were taught. The atheist children should be allowed to do whatever during that time as long as it's respectful.

That's nonsense (not judging you, just the premise :-P )
If God is love, forgiveness and hope. If love is everywhere and can see and intervene in everything, you don't need to put prayer back and won't make any difference if you pray at home, at a bench on the public park or at the school.
If God does not exist (or does not care...at least that is the only "evidence" we have, if he exists), it is the same that you pray or not at school, isn't that right?
By putting back prayer at schools you will be doing the following:
* Ignoring, rejecting and disrespecting the rights of the many children who are not Christian (they may be atheists, agnostics, shintoists, hinduists, muslim, etc.)
* Adding another burden to the one that already have both teachers and students: the burden of having to follow just another rule impossed by those who think they have the only truth.
* You would be making schools impossible for many people (which is in part good, because there will be more and more parents considering homeschooling as the only way to make their children real free thinkers).
..............................
Second part (returning to Jesus)
Following Jesus teachings, or any other thinker about how to behave, what is good and what is wrong is not bad at all. Jesus is not the problem. The problem is that many "believers" don't follow even Jesus teachings: they just think about themselves and care nothing for how other people think or feel. I don't think that is something Jesus would encourage (non-tolerance).
And, after all, it is not only about "America", or "God bless America". If you are a truly humanist, you should think about the millions of other people who live in this world.

We have His protection now, as far as I am concerned.
God has nothing to do with murder rates.
He does not send storms to punish us.
Prayer has not been removed from schools. INDIVIDUALS may pray; administrators and teachers may not LEAD prayer.
We need parents who will take an interest in their children. THAT is the reason for the illiteracy problem. Many do not care; many think of their children as "the school's problem."
I see it here. I see it on other boards. People do not spell correctly and cannot use homophones correctly. They do not see it as being important---"as long as you know what I mean, who cares?"
I find that horrifying.
People will take your opinions seriously if you express yourself well and use correct punctuation. They might not if you cannot write correctly.
JMO.....I am an English major and a grammarian.
Correct use of the English language is a big deal.
All of that is important to me.

Why do we have the kids carry those little mats around with them so they can pray all the time like they do in the middle east. We could have loud speakers all over the country with 24 hour a day praying on them. Or you could grow a brain and have thought. Have a good New Year, be Safe.
