I live in Michigan. I see a lot of cars for sale that have no title. Many say they are clean title and come with bill of sale. What do I have to do to get a title? Can I get one? The secratary of state here says without title, no chance of getting one. I dont believe that. There must be some way. Thanks for any help.

SOS in Michigan is not easy to deal with. Any car in sold in Michigan should have a title, or the current owner should be able to get one, unless theres something fishy. I've owned cars as old as '67 and always had a title. It's a big risk to buy w/o title.

Is this coming from dealerships or private sellers? If it's a private seller, don't buy without proof of title. Dealerships (depending on what state you live in) don't give you the title at time of sale either. Plus, (although they won't admit it) the dealer might not have the title yet.

Since vehicles in all states are sold by title, a vehicle without a title can't be sold, except for parts.

It doesn't matter if you believe it or not. You also can't buy real estate without a deed.
