Then he laughs and says, "if you give me $1000. I won't tell your wife." Is this how a preacher should interact with a member of the congregation?

Those kinds of comments from a preacher are the kind of thing that makes people have doubts about religion. I don't know the context that he said it in but the innuendo alone suggests he approved of something this guy did that his wife should know about.

This "nudge", "wink" mentality some people have about messing around and hurting other people is wrong, or maybe he hadn't done anything at all behind his wife's back. Either way, it's wrong, and a preacher should know better.

Knowing what we now know, I'd say that Haggard's behavior on that occasion was a symptom of his decades in the closet. Hiding yourself from everyone -- including yourself -- has to be damaging, no?

But what really bothers me about that scene, is the behavior of the audience: They laugh. And no matter how many times I watch, I can't decide whether it's a nervous reaction or whether they think Haggard is genuinely funny.

He was probably all tweaked out and horny. Looked like he was hitting on the guy.

Not when he's diddling around with male prostitutes, it's not.

*sigh*

well at least he wasn't a hypocrite about THAT anyway, he really DID live his life like that! LOL!

I bet that guy he used to have sex with and buy meth from said that to him plenty of times.

I can't stand ministers of God that fleece the flock.

He said this to one of the people making the documentary, not to one of the congregation, but it's probably pretty much in line with stuff he said to his members, considering their reaction.
And, considering that he was found to have been frequenting a male prostitute and using meth, it's pretty ironic.

It's a moot point. As we all know what happened to him.

the guy was in his "special" club, it's very exclusive. And if his wife DOES find out about it, well...well look at what Haggard got into when the media found out what he actually does.
