Not weird at all! I'm sort going to wear a a white with black polka dotted 50's style dress. I can't find one so I'm having to make it. We're having a small wedding as well. We're going to have dinner and say our vows. No aisle, no bridesmaids etc. The dress fits with our theme and is more practical then a wedding gown which, you'll only wear once. We're already spending so much money on everything else. And you know back in the day the brides dress was their best dress, pretty much whatever nice dress they owned. And white wasn't always the traditional color, I think it was Queen Victoria who started that trend. I may have my queens wrong so don't quote me on that!
I'm sure you'll look great :)
Pfft, for Honeybee and anyone else saying that people wont know you're the bride...If the people don't know who is getting married, then why the hell are they there?! LOL

Hi and congratulations!
No...it would not be weird...you can do what you want.
I would, however, still want to stand out and be recognized as the bride. Your wedding dress, no matter how expensive or inexpensive should be special. Do you really want just another dress that you will wear to something else?
I know right now David's Bridal is having their $99 sale. (I just saw the add on TV tonight - Jan. 1st). There are many, many "informal" gowns too! I like these ones from the David's Bridal website:

You can find LOTS of inexpensive gowns/dresses if you look around. Go to a bridal store too! They have some that they will sell off the rack usually cheaper. Not all are big poofy "cinderella" gowns.
Your bridesmaids: Great idea to choose the color and let them choose the dress. Again, David's Bridal has LOTS of styles to choose from.
Good luck!

It's perfectly acceptable and becoming more and more common. Everyone is gonna know who the bride is, because they are your friends and family, of course they will know that you are the bride, if they don't know that then they shouldn't be coming to the wedding. I didn't have a traditional dress, I wore a tea length cocktail dress, it was beautiful and I have no regrets.

Actually I bought a vintage party dress in white for my wedding and I love it. (Think Audrey Hepburn). Pair the party dress with a veil of some sort and that will surely identify you as the bride (although I would think your guests will know regardless).

I'm sure that people will be able to distinguish you no matter what kind of dress you choose to wear.

Ok, so lemme get this straight there will be 5-10 girls in the same color dress??? Unless people know it's your wedding or you hang a "Bride" sign around your neck, people won't!
My sister found a dress in the perfect color and wanted us to both wear it for her wedding. I told her we'd both look like bridesmaids.
The attention will be on ALL of you, the point of you being the only person able to wear white to the wedding is so that all eyes and attention will be on you. If you don't mind sharing the spotlight, dress like your bridesmaids and act like it's just another party!

Go for the party dress. White is traditional, but who says you have to do what most other brides do?
The wedding is not about the guests, the family, or the friends. It's not about the food, the drink, or the music. It's about making a commitment to each other and how that's done should be on the couples terms only!
