Jesus would be ashamed of anyone doing that. What is wrong with Christians who believe this? Do they really think that Jesus would advocate war in his name? He'd be disgusted with what's being done in his name.

What he should have said was that he thought we need to get back to our roots - based in the understanding that all faiths (or lack of) are protected in our country (as william b says). But at the same time, this country was never meant to be an immoral country, which is what it has become in many ways. The founding fathers never meant for that (and they also did not mean for this country to be free from religion either).
An example: The slaughter of innocents through abortion and the immorality of that is never what they would have wanted.
So, again, maybe he should have said we are becoming an immoral country that needs to go back to it's moral roots and get away from "if it's good for me personally and feels good then it's okay even if it hurts another or society" relativism.

Absolutely not. This nation was never "Christ's". It's time all thinking Americans wrested this great country from the grasping hands of self-righteous Christians.

This nation was never Christ's in the first place. This nation is for its people no matter what religion, race, creed, or sex that person is. Mike Huckabee can take back all he wants, but he cannot possibly be elected dog catcher with campaign remarks like that. I resent people who say this is a Christian Nation. This is a nation that is mostly people of a Christian faith, but there are lots of other faiths out there. In fact there are as many non-Christian religions as there are Christian factions.

No one religion is the correct religion or the right religion for all people. What one person believes is the correct and right religion for him. It is a personal decision. No one has the right to say my religion is wrong and I need to see the light and follow their true path. It does not matter if I am JW, Scientologist, Mormon, Hindi, Jew, Muslim, agnostic or atheist. What matters it is my choice to make and you should believe in what you what without interfering with me.

As a Christian, I do believe that we should take America back for Christ. How to do that is another question. America was at one time a Christian nation, it is no longer ...... sad. I don't think a President can or should do that - that is not the job of the President or the calling of the President. The job belongs to we Christians and our churches, ministers, pastors, etc.. I believe most Christians understand what Huckabee was really saying, but politicians and liberals choose to make it more than it was. We're used to that. I do hope it is in God's plan to put a Christian in the White House. We need someone that understands that there is a higher power than the President.

Yes I agree with any one who thinks this way. Read what is coming if we don't, Look at any country or nation that has turned and taken God out of anything, it is common sense Their is proof, Look at these countries they are running from . And then coming here to cause the same havoc they came from. Scripture is unfolding right in front of Us "All and so many are blinded to it. just like Jesus says you all will be. He gets angry at any one who turns own him, look at Israel and jerusalem look at all of them who have turned own Him and we are no different just because we are the USA. Who would want someone who is not of God running this country, not me, The consoquence,s are devastateing ,And what is in scripture is unfolding right in front of Us and all who is in denial of it and are trying to find all kinds of other reasons , are not of Gods spirit, that is also in the scriptures, People you all had better wake up and take notice of what is going own right in front of you. This is a nation based own in God we trust, Our Grand father and their father Died and some today are still dieing for our freedom, and we are allowing their deaths to be in vain, by turning and taking away the only " Hope we All have and that is God, And anyone who is not lead by God dose not need to be in control of this country, Dang what is wrong with you all. surely tells who is lead by who, God have mercy own the USA and All. And I dont care what any dark filled spirit person thinks, of either,

My friends, I agree with the majority of you all here, this is WRONG to try to force folks conscience, whether Christian or non-Christian.
This is why our country was founded, was so that nobody could force anybody's conscience, in the name of state or religion.
But, believe it or not, this country is on the point of legislating morality, and the Christian Right will be prominent in pushing it thru. The Pope will back it, and most people will jump to the conclusion that it is our only way to control a society gone violently wild.
Read all about it in a book called The Great Controversy, by E.G. White. I don't want you all to run out and get baptized, I just want people to be aware of what's happening.

He made that statement in1998 while speaking at a convention of Baptist ministers. So in now way does that reflect how he would run the country.
As for some who have said this country was founded on secular beliefs. It night help you to research that idea. This country was founded on Christian beliefs. Our founding fathers new that morality without a strong religious ( Christian) foundation would not succeed. We need to get back to these foundations instead of letting the state decide for us what is moral.
