My favorites are Gin and Scotch (not mixed together).

I don't know how appropriate they are for beginners however.

rum can be mixed very sweet, ie captain morgan and coke. Vodka's flavor is by far the easiest to hide, vodka and cranberry juice being a star example. the problem here is that masking the taste this much might lead you to forget how much alcohol is actually in the drink so do not have to many/space them out.

For a beginner, I think that it's best to start with wine, wine coolers, or champagne. Champagne's the most fun!!!

I personally like to drink Sam Adams Boston Lager and Honey Brown. Do not drink Budwiser or any big name beer like that they are all nasty.
