I have a fat cat too - I tried feeding her only 1/3 cup in AM and 1/3 cup in PM, only dry, only so-called "diet" cat food, and she's never lost any of the weight, but thankfully she stopped gaining at least. :( She weighs like 13 lbs and she seems to be comfortable that weight, so as long as she isn't gaining more, I'm just keeping her on the strict diet that the vet prescribed. That's about all you can do. Just make sure the food you are giving your cat is a recommended food and not comprised of a bunch of junk, and limit your feedings to only twice a day.

I understand it may be hard to do that since you have 5 cats - but maybe if you can separate her from the other cats during feeding she will be able to eat only her food and then when the cats are all through eating pick up the leftover food, don't leave it out. Good luck!

My one year old male cat is exactly the same, I tink part of the reason is it is winter and cats to survive the cold weather tend to 'puff out' their fur but also maybe you are feeding your cat Too much in proportion to his weight, starting reducing ( alittle ) the intake of food to put in the bowl during the day, he may have worms also? Don't worry too much but if your cat becomes SEROIUSLY overweight you will have to ask the vet's advice on diet and nutrition. Good Luck!! The only other reasonable explanation is could your cat possibly be pregnant?

You could be overfeeding it. That happened to my cat so I now feed him less. I have 5 cats too and know how much they want to eat. Only fill the bowl 1/4 next time and it`ll get skinnier. My cat got much more skinny but now he lives a happy long life.

If you only feed her at certain times of the day, she doesn't know when she will be fed again, so she eats everything. If you leave food out all the time, your cat will know that food will always be available, and she can eat when she wants.

She might have a thyroid problem... Get her checked at the doctor. She also probably has a low metabolism.

Wow, 5 cats? Kudos to you..
Keeping food around all the time makes people want to eat constantly, so I guess same goes for animals. Maybe that's why?
