Ketoacidosis is a abnormal build up of a byproduct of fat metabolism. It is a sign that the body isn't breaking down nutrients in the normal way. It might be a sign that the kidneys are not functioning properly (which could be life threatening).

Bulimia is extremely dangerous, I hope you can get help to beat this problem. Please be as open with your doctor as possible.

please be careful..I am so surprised that you haven't yet vomited the tissue from your esophagus! this can happen from the stomach acid burning it as you purge, to a point where you begin gagging because the tissue is blocking whatever you are trying to vomit up, and then blood and large quantities of tissue come up! afterwards you have to worry about your throat swelling closed and blocking your airway!!! BE CAREFUL! STOP WHILE YOU HAVE A CHANCE>>>IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!!

You're right! This was not so easy to find information on, since it typically affects those with diabetes. I did find this however:

"Ketoacidosis

A state which involves high levels of acids which build up in the blood caused by the body burning fat rather than sugar and carbohydrates to get energy. The shift from utilizing carbohydrates as energy to fat results in the formation of ketoacids. Kidneys are overwhelmed by the continuous production of ketone bodies resulting in profound acidosis. Common causes are alcohol abuse, starvation, excessive purging, dehydration and hyperglycemia. Untreated diabetes can cause ketoacidosis (also known as DKA)."

I wish I could have found more for you, but that seems to be about it.
