I was at work (cashire in a grocery store) and was talking to a co-worker about my up comming trip to France. Well a costomer came in my line and I rang his order up, as I handed him his recipt I began talking to my co-worker again about the trip. The costomer asked me where in France I was going, so I told him - Lourdes. And he got pissed off at me. He almost snorted out 'Why, so see all the shrines?!?' and I said 'Yes Sir' and he stormmed off.

Why?

I guess a person who sees something wrong with you going to Lourdes to see the shrines has a respect problem. You are entitled to freedom of religion in the USA. You can spend your vacation in France if you want. These are your rights and your choices. You didn't do anything wrong, and if you run into an occasional grouch, remember we all do now and then. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

He was probably anti-catholic.

Don't sweat it. A lot of people snorted and became irrate at Jesus too.

LOL, I just got an image of a bull in my head.

Angry atheist? Someone who hates tourists? Obviously he has some strong feelings about people who go to see those shrines.

Some people are offended by religion. Why this man? who can say? Perhaps he, or someone he loves. went to be healed and it did not happen. Hope rejected can make one bitter.

e also just may not understand what you, or any person sees, in a religion, and because he can not see it, it becomes a frightening thing- it appears that people are illogically controled. When people are frightened, they often get pisses, expecially men (research backs this up in the western culture)

Remember what your faith says to do when confronted by such people.

hope you have a lovely time.

He probably was anti-religion, but his reaction was triggered because he asked you where you were going, expecting a specific thing like "Paris" or "the south of France" and you mentioned one building. This probably set him off because he knows there are a lot of other things in France to see.

Because people's ignorance about the Church allows them to justify judgement of Catholics by just listening to what anti-Catholic preachers say or reading anti-Catholic literature, without ever doing research on what the Church ACTUALLY teaches.

I hope you enjoy your trip. Not everyone gets an opportunity for a pilgrimage, so make the most of it!
