Southwest Airlines has an excellent safety record of the major domestic airlines and they've been around for over 30 years. I've even met pilots and mechanics from other airlines that prefer to fly SWA when they aren't working because they feel they're safer. Says a lot- I think ;)

Statistically speaking- you have approximately a 1 in 8 million chance of crashing on a major airline so you're pretty safe either way. Every time you get in your car your hundreds times more likely to be in an accident so it's still safer than driving!

Travel safe and have a great new year!

relatively risk-free! The hazard of something happening to you is extraordinarily much 0. To get an concept circulate to you community city's airport, inspect what share arrivals and departures there are in one day. There are hundreds of hundreds of flights daily around the globe and injuries are uncommon. The unfavorable stigma linked with air holiday is with the help of the reality that when injuries take place fatalities are severe, this scares people. finding on the numbers of folk flying daily, whether there strengthen into a minimum of an twist of destiny an afternoon the possibilities that it would be your flight might nevertheless be agonizingly close 0.

I'd say that Southwest is the safest as they have not had a single air crash. There have been a few problems, but I believe they are the safest. On http://www.planecrashinfo.com/rates.htm , you can see a list of airlines. The only reason I believe Southwest is below Delta is because of a few ground accidents. But they do have 0 Fatal Events. Also, Southwest Airlines is on the No Accidents list at http://www.planecrashinfo.com/noaccident.htm . But I would still look into each airlines for more safety info.

In terms of fatal accidents, Qantas the Australian Airline is the safest. They have had no fatal accidents since 1961, and have never lost a jet aircraft. However they do not have a perfect safety record. Prior to 1961 they had 8 fatal crashes in piston engine aircraft with a loss of 62 lives. They recently had a 747 overshoot the runway in Bangkok with no fatalities, the aircraft was a near write off.

Unfortunately this doesnt help much if you are flying domestically in the US.

It depends on what country you live in. If you live in Canada, your two major choices are Air Canada and WestJet. From experience, I tend to prefer WestJet. I know they have a very good safety record, and my family only flies with WestJet when they travel within Canada.
As for US Airlines, I really like the smaller carried "America West" which is a subsidiary of US Airways. They are very very friendly people that work there, and after a horrific experience on Alaska Air, we were treated like gold with America West and have flown them a few times. If they fly to the destination you are going to, I highly recommend them. American Airlines was okay, I guess a handful of snotty air hosts should not speak for the rest of AA flight attendants, but I was not very fond of the company.
I guess your question had to do with safety records... as far as I know the majority of US Airlines are safe... but of all of them, I would not recommend Alaska Airlines to anybody.

All US commercial airlines have the same safety standards to adhere to. Honestly, the major carriers are all the same - just go with the best price or the one that has the most convenient schedule for you.

As a flight attendant, I have been on thousands of flights and many different carriers and I am still here kicking.

Traveling by is the safest way to travel. I can't speak for any individual airline cause I work for one, just think of it as roller coaster ride and enjoy it.
