not if they were Jews, they didn't think he was God. No such thing as that exists in Judaism that the Messiah is God. No such thing exists in Judaism that the Messiah is born from God and a human virgin either. So they wouldn't have believed any of that.
They wouldn't have even heard of any of that, except they would have probably known that pagan religions in the area believe those things in their own religions for their own savour figures, including human sacrifice for sin. Judaism doesn't have that either.
And they would have stopped believing he is the Messiah, as well, when he died and failed to fulfill the prophecies. There is no such thing as a second coming in Judaism, this is a church invention. Nor does the Messiah die as some sort of god/man virgin blood sacrifice for sin, in Judaism, but rather he lives a long life and fulfills all the prophecies during his lifetime. Any other outcome means that the person was not the Messiah.
As for believing he was the son of God, this was a common greeting among Jews at that time, nothing unusual about it at all. It certainly wouldn't have meant a son as in god and a virgin producing a child, this comes from ancient paganism, not Judaism.

"When Jesus came into the region
of Caesarea Philippi,
He asked His disciples, saying,
“Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
So they said, “Some say John the Baptist,
some Elijah,
and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them,
“But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said,
“You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,
for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you,
but My Father who is in heaven." Mt16:13-17

The Bible reports that Jesus asked "who do you think that I am?" in Matthew 16:16. Peter responded: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." It doesn't say if the other disciples totally agreed with this statement at the time, but they certainly didn't rise up to stone him so they apparently thought there was something to it.
While there are other mentions that Jesus was God (such as Thomas' confession when Jesus appeared to him after the resurrection) I think that the disciples didn't fully understand who Jesus was until after the resurrection and the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentacost.

They knew who he was, He just wanted them to say they knew, and they did.

Jehovah? no of course not. they knew he was the messenger of Malachi 3:1-3 , the angel of covenant....that God almighty told that would send.
Why people reject that God sent his first son to earth? cause all angels are sons of God according to Job 1:6 and Jesus is the first of them according to Colossians 1:15-17 and Revelation 3:14?
Unless the bible lies Jesus was the son of the most high (Luke 1:32) and the name of the most high is Jehovah according to Psalms 83:18.
