Rabies is transmitted through saliva, and if the cat licked its claws while cleaning them before you got scratched, it is a possibility, but also very unlikely. A rabid cat is unlikely to enter a house and do what happened to you. But, you also need to know if rabies is a problem in your area. A rabid cat is rather rare, and also a course of anti-rabies shots is extremely expensive, although sometimes health departments cover them. More likely then not, infection would be the bigger worry, as scratches can get nasty.

There are different strains of Rabies, but the vets use the rabies vaccine needed for your area. The cat should be immune.

Cats get vaccinated with the killed version of the virus. They should be immune to the disease. But like any vaccine out there (like chicken pox), they are not a 100% effective. Look out for obvious animals like bats, farrets and raccoons.

My cat is bald.
I took him to the vet for an anti-rabies shot and he thought I said "Anti-Rabbits" and anti-rabbits is combined with anti-hares and . . . . .
That's not very funny is it?
I'll go away now.
Goodbye
