I think the main reason is because these books show no definete form of a religion at all. They don't spell it out. In fact if you read the books you will see and maybe even interpret that the context of the bible is actually in the books it self.
Harry Potter is seen as the boy who lived, the boy who is thought to be the savior for killing the evil that terrorized the wizarding community. As the series progresses you see his struggle with the truth and the good and evil of the world, not just in the wizarding community but in the "muggle" world as well.
If any religious person took the time to look beyond the fact that it talks about witchcraft, and not even as a religion but for the MAGIC of it, then they would see that its a series that talks
about good and evil, and how anyone can over come it.
In no way does it promote anyone to worship paganism. It doesn't talk about Gods and Goddeses.
It's sad to say that many people do judge a book by its cover.

for children who can not tell the difference between fiction and reality. The may think that is witchcraft. But if the child understands that it is fiction and fanticy then there is no problem.

Because it most certainly does encourage the occult.Witches, wizards, spells, this is something as a christian we are taught from the bible is against God.Read what it says within what we believe to be the words of God to us as Christians about this issue. Then argue with God about it,I will follow his commands and raise my children to get power and authority only from his spirit the holy spirit. There are many teachings but one truth, when I found it I was delivered from many false spiritual teachings.Parents have all the right to raise a child they have been given under the teachings of Christ. It is the job of a parent to raise their child from a conviction and faith, and to protect them from false teachings.

Sweetie, some Christians have issues with just being seen in a video store period! And I'm a Christian. Some people are way too busy with their list of things you cannot do and seem to be overlooking the things of importance. I guess it takes all kinds.

They think that since it's talking about spells and such, they think it's of the devil. Some Christians can be very closed minded about this sort of thing, which is where all the controversy stems from.

Witch craft and all that. Actually, they should look at the movie as good vs bad. A lot of fodder there that they can use for teaching.
