You don't mention why he's taking Risperdal in the first place...is it for psychosis (schizophrenia) or bipolar disorder? Those are the two most common reasons people are put on Risperdal.

If he quits taking it suddenly, then he will likely experience some negative side effects, as it is one of those kinds of medication that need to be stopped gradually over a period of time. If he does stop taking it gradually (and isn't on a similar type medication) he will likely begin to experience the same psychological symptoms he had prior to taking the Risperdal.

Encourage your husband to stay on it if possible. Not only will it help him feel better, but it will keep him and other people safe, as bipolar disorder and psychosis can cause unpredictable and sometimes irrational behavior. Good luck and hope this helps.

If he has some kind of long term mental health disorder, the symptoms will probably get worse if he isn't taking another medication to replace it. For example, if he used to have hallucinations, he will probably start having them again,

If his symptoms were short term maybe he will be okay.

If he didn't really need it to begin with he should be okay.

He'll most likely begin having mood swings and/or having some bursts of anger.

Depends somewhat on why he is taking it. As far as I know, Risperdal is prescribed for either psychosis or Bipolar. Not taking it would probably lead to recurrence of symptoms but don't know how soon. Some medications have to be gradually stepped down to avoid certain effects. If you remember that the medication had to be stepped up, that is gradually increased, then it is recommended that it be gradually decreased. It is best not to stop psychotropic medication without a Doctors order.

He will start acting out. My son use to take it and he stopped and the doctor told him that if he stopped and started that it would take a long time to build back up in his system.
