Seems like both direct tv and dish want me to sign a contract for their service. If i do and then need to move overseas how hard is it to get out of that thing?

Direct TV in my own experience sucks (for a lot of reasons). However if you do sign a contract with either one make sure you have it somewehere in the contract about if you have to break the contract early. Must contracts are yearly. If you break it early they can charge you. Just like your military contract read the fine print.

Actually, the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act prevents ANYONE from charging a early termination fee due to military orders taking you to somewhere where you can't continue service (including deployments). They will try because a lot of people don't know about it, but it's illegal (not to mention immoral). If they try to charge you, demand to talk to a supervisor and meantion the Relief Act and that they can get a huge fine.

Personally, I have directv. They are a million times better than dish (not to mention dish keeps loosing contract from channels because of the way they do business).

Specifically ask for a military clause in your contract. It works on more then just a lease, it can also be added to service things often , but you have to ask specifically for it.
