My manager is new with the company and he is bringing four coworkers with him from his previous company. Me and one other girl are the outsiders. So far I'm not impressed. He can't give me clear answers on the medical insurance coverage, he tells me one thing then says another. I can't get straight answers out of him on anything. I didn't get an official offer of employment letter - just a generic packet with random information on the company and a insurance form to fill out (with no insurance information as to what plans are offered). I email him asking him questions about the forms I'm filling out and he emails me back with vague answers and says "Just two more days before the fun begins" (meaning 2 more days until I start). I think this guy is a quack. The other girls he hired look like topless dancers - I'm from the corporate world and very professional. I feel out of place and not at all confident this is a manager I can trust or rely on. But I need this job. ???

I'd also like to add that this is a new manager, someone this company recently hired and should I call the corporate office if I don't get answers from him on my insurance info?

I'd call HR and talk to them about benefits. Your manager probably doesn't know himself. As for the new job, if you need it now then take it. Everyone, you, your new boss and the company is under the 6 month review anyway. If your concerns don't dissipate or get more pressing with that time start looking around. I would not be comfortable working with people who don't give a professional appearance.

Talk to HR re: the insurance and play it by ear. he does sound a bit flaky and you might find the atmosphere unpleasant but stick it out until you find something else for sure, can't afford to quit.

I don't care if you need this job. If this place isn't giving streight answers, don't try it. ou could get deep in problems. Whatever you do, don't sign anything!

Since you need the job (like i did mine) and have major concerns (like i did mine), i would suggest you keep everything in record (my mistake in the beginning).
Important matters send it through email, his reply print and archive. Make sure to cover your bases in case something does happen.
No matter how trivial always keep a record or make him sign a received or through email. Meanwhile, make the best of the current situation until you can find something better.
Good luck and hope your new year goes well. ^_^

Call corporate Human Resources dept for insurance answers if not call the main office and ask for one of the Vice Presidents secretaries and talk one on one like friends...I'm sure you will be directed to the right person if she doesn't know.

Definately call corporate about the insurance - you don't want to lose whatever you are carrying in on COBRA if you have something. Since you have 2 days, ask them what you should have in hand and what Human Resources should have by this point. Of course, New Years is not the best time to answer. I notice you didn't mention the kind of business or the kind of company - you may not have a choice of insurance.

It sounds like you need to call human resources for the details on your employment and insurance, etc. While you are speaking with them ask for a written job description "to make sure you do everything they expect.
From your description this job sounds a bit odd, so keep your resume updated and keep an eye out for a job that might be a better fit.
Good luck.
