when my husband took my kids and i fishing and my kids were bored so i put a fishing hook with a line attached and put it in the my belly button. i told the kids that i was going swimming and their father caught me and that that is how you fish for people, by catching and piercing their belly button. do you do things like that to trick or entertain your kids? if so, i want to hear them.

sorry, i forgot to mention my belly button was already pierced and the guage was big enough to fit the hook. i did it to show them not to swim while people are swimming. besides, at ages 16 and 17 now, neither one of my children has been as stupid as mbp and pierced themselves with a fish hook, which im sure he is trying to do right now.

i still put a hook in my navel on occasion around my kids, but they're beginning to think it's kind of gross to have a mom wearing a makeshift belly button ring. its still almost tradition and i keep the hook in my pocket book.

We have gardens here and right next to the water are thousands of Cypress stumps. I always told my children when they were little that they were actually little kids who didn't listen to their mommy and got too close to the water!! It worked until they got older and they laugh about it with me now.

I also have a four year old son who has discovered the fine art of lying. I tell him that when he tells lies his tongue gets black dots on it that only I can see. It works.

One time, the ice cream truck pulled down our street and of course my kids started hollering. I was broke that day so I told them that when the ice cream truck is playing music that means they are out of ice cream.

I trick them but only to get them to listen. I know this sounds HORRIBLE but it works. My kids are wayyy to friendly and will talk to anyone, well used to anyway. We have a nasty, dirty old guy that walks around the neighborhood all the time. I know he is not homeless, maybe just a little insane. I named him the crack monster. The kids think if they talk to him they will turn to stone. They also believe random people out there are crack monsters too, so they cannot go up to strangers and talk to them or they run the risk of meeting up with another crack monster. I know horrible but I would rather they believe that and be safe then talk to someone that would harm them.

Our children 3 and 5 believe that tickles come from pockets and we have lots of fun with that.

I have also introduced them to the Toy Police (toy soldiers). They visit homes at night to make sure the toys are picked up. If Santa and the Easter Bunny can visit homes, I figured the Toy Police would be little harm.

Nah, the only time I have ever tricked any of my children is when I had my first and he was really whiny waiting in the car with me while his dad was in the court house paying for a ticket- I didn't know how to get him to stop being whiny in the car he was 1 n 1/2. So I was like "look theres a cow" and all kinds of animals he was all excited and trying to find them I was like "aww you must have missed it" he was laughing and having fun instead of being whiny.. So who cares.. lol

You've lost your mind. Besides, thats dangerous - they are likely to stick a fish hook thru their skin. i DO however tell my kids that I have eyes in the back of my head...
