Some people are so brainwashed, sheltered, or ignorant that they think HP is a "witchcraft manual" of sorts. They're too dim-witted to understand that HP is only fiction, and nothing more. What these zealots are actually doing is showing how ignorant and intolerant they truly are of people who do not believe as they do. What these people need to do is grow up and realize the difference between fact and fiction.

I read the first HP book and didn't care for it because JK Rowling's amateurish writing style turned my stomach. But the HP series has caused a joy for reading in millions of kids who would otherwise spend time on IQ lowering hobbies such as video games or tv watching. The religious fanatics should at least try to appreciate that.

Some people can not accept that good life lessons can be had from literature - if the literature is about anything other than Bible stories.

Personally, I like the series and I'm a Christian. I think the main reason some Christians attack it is because it promotes the use of magic and doing things for yourself. It might make a kid wish or even believe that magic is real and therefore they don't need a "god." I think as long as you don't take things out of proportion then it isn't a bad thing to like it. There are always those people, though.

I try to be a devout catholic and I see HP as a fun movie/book collection for kids. And it gets them to read, which is always a good thing.

People who believe in literal talking snakes and donkeys, etc, noticeably have a hard time distinguishing fact from fantasy. Are you really surprised that they can't stand fiction?
