My dad got me a VISA gift card for $100. He said that where ever they took VISA I could use it!
I was trying to buy a song on iTunes and I entered the credit card number and the security code and everything!
But it said that it wasn't a valid credit card!
Why is it that I cant buy things online with this card?
Or atleast on iTunes, where they DO take VISA?

It depends on the Card. Some "Gift" cards even though they have a VISA logo are only good at specific locations. This is most common with the Gift Cards sold by Shopping Malls. They are only allowed to be used at the stores in their particluar mall. If this is the case you MAY be able to book it with that number, but if you try to pay on the room they will not accept it. You have to check the terms of the Gift Card it will let you know if you can do something like this. Also, if it does allow On-Line purchases it will give you the verification information to enter in such as the Billing Zip Code.

When you buy something on-line using the traditional Visa card, the Merchant has an on-line terminal that can check your credit card account to see that it is valid and deduct the purchase amount from your account. When you use a gift card, the Merchant needs to have it physically present ,so that the amount can be deducted from the card using his/her machine connected to Visa HQ.Otherwise, the holder and 20 or 50 friends could be going on-line to purchase goods usint the gift card number. This is a very good reason why you should never give out your credit card number to friends .

A Visa Gift Card is NOT a credit card. It is a debit card, and it is not universally accepted. It can be used in any store that accepts Visa but not at gas pumps although it can be used inside the station, and some on-line sites won't accept, at ATM's you usually can not get cash and there are fees attached to using it at someplaces, depending in the terms of the card that was purchased..

You may want to stop by a store or a bank and have them check to make sure that the card was activated. Sometimes, clerks get in a hurry, and they forget to activate the card before they give it to dads who then give them to their kids.

Have you activated it yet?

If you haven't, then it's not valid.
