I am going to take the kids and dogs to Wiltshire tomorrow rather than sit indoors.. we plan on visiting the stones at Avebury, Stonehenge and the Kennet Long Barrow but is there anything else we can do too? We are travelling over 300 miles there and back so want to make it a special packed day. Also am I right in thinking every shop will be shut? It'll be nice to get a cuppa throughout the day!!

Thanks and Happy New Year!!
X

As well as the places you mention I would suggest visiting Martinsell Hill and Oare Hill near Pewsey and Oare. You will get wonderful views if it is a clear day towards the South Downs, Cotswolds and Salisbury Plain. These hills are beautiful, mystical places; a walk around them will give you a wonderful feeling of wellbeing. Nearby is Savernake Forest, large with many ancient trees; there is open access to most of it and if you are in a car you can drive up 'Grand Avenue' that runs through the centre of the forest.
