By many definitions a heathen is actually someone who does not believe in one of the religions of Abraham: Christianity, Islam, or Judaism.

Which means anyone who believes in God but doesn't consider themselves to be one of those religions, or anyone who doesn't believe in any God is a heathen.

So, by that definition, all atheists are heathens, but not all heathens are atheists.

And, yeah, I'm a Heathen!

They are really two different things. A heathen in your terms is a non-Christian. It has absolutely no relation to the word atheist, which is simply a person who does not believe in the existence of ANY gods.

Edit: To the debate about "Webster's" : the name Webster's is in the public domain and anyone can publish a Webster's dictionary, so it is really meaningless unless you are specific.

To your "additional comments", caring what other people think about you excessively is a sign of low self-esteem. Count me in the "call me anything but late for dinner" crowd.

a heathen is a heathen but it is not his fault that the word of allah(islam) has not reached him, so allah will forgive his ignorance because he had no choice in that, and allah does not punish for what someone doesnt know.

an atheist usually knows the word of allah and is an arrogant person who refuses to recognize the power of his lord over him

I think 'heathen' is usually taken to mean someone who worships gods other than the usual deities of Western monotheistic religions.

I see a heathen as one who worshiped false mighty ones. And an Atheist as a secular humanist

To believe there is not God and to believe God does not exist is the same.
