My husband made about $5,500 before he was laid off earlier this year. On unemployment he got a little over $9,500. Unemployment wasn't taxed so will we even get a refund? We have two children and thanks to the layoff we are about to lose everything!
I looked online but can't find any way to estimate what we might get back if anything.

Check out this calculator, http://www.expenseregister.com/Home/calculators/taxCalculator/taxCalculator.php . I am not sure how EIC works here since this is unemployment income, but you dont owe any money.

They didn't take taxes out of the unemployment? It's taxable income. If the entire income for the two of you was $15,000 from his job and the unemployment comp, you shouldn't owe any taxes so if anything was withheld from his job, you'd get that back. You'll also get a little over $2200 as an Earned Income Credit, so that should help a little.

Good luck.

Best news is that you shouldn't owe anything is this was your only income. vb is correct that you should get any withholding and a little Earned income credit. If you can wait a few days, the online tax preperation software at most locations will be up and running. Try HRBlock TaxCut online. You can get an estimate off your last paycheck stub. Block offices are opening Wednesday, they can estimate for you as well, but you need the paycheck stub and a total unemployment (which is officially taxable, they just did not take out anything to pay any taxes you might have owed)

Total income was 15,000.
If you didn't make anything, there won't be any income tax.
You would get a refund of any withholding from the job and some EIC.
