Because of my fear of driving, my permit had expired a while back and I stopped driving afterwards. It expired when I was living in Illinois and we moved to Tennessee over the summer. It was the permit I received from taking Drivers Ed. in high school. I need to get a license soon because I'm getting a job and need to be able to transport myself. Would I have to take a class again or something? I am 19 years old, if that means anything.

I'm at a loss to understand why anyone would ask! Certainly not, I'd never give it another thought until I moved to another area to take a license in that new area. Meanwhile, it's completely useless to speculate.

Hi,
You won't have to take drivers ed now but you should train with a professional at least 6 hrs. to learn road signs and how the road, highways, streets work.
You will need to take the written test again.

If you're afraid of driving you need someone to teach you how to drive, Not only how to read the signs and know the rules, but also how to handle a car. Learn how to accelerate into a curve, How to downshift if it's a stick shift, learn about car maintenance, at least learn what brakes sound like when going bad. Learn to watch the temperature and other gauges so you know where they are when everything is working right etc. Learn to check your tire pressures, how to check your oil level reading the dipstick. It's not that hard to learn and become comfortable driving and owning a car, people just need to realize that it's not just filling the gas tank and turning a key. Don't use a cell phone in the car at this point in time and you will have a chance!

I know that in IL, you can just go take the test for a small fee if you're over 18, but unfortunately, I don't know what TN's laws are. I would assume they're similar. Just check your county's DMV website, it should tell you what you need to know! :)

Cheers
