Urea can be high because of dehydration ( usually creatinine is normal), or because of impaired renal/kidney function ( urea and creatinine usually both high). Low urea can occur as a result of low protein intake. Ask your doctor if unsure.

BUN stands for Blood Urea Nitrogen. Basically, it means it's measuring the amount of toxins in your blood....as it gets higher, that means the kidneys aren't doing as good a job filtering out the bad stuff as they should be. You probably wouldn't have any symptoms of an elevated BUN, unless it gets very high, as in End Stage Renal Failure; then you may get uncontrollable itching and loss of concentration. The BUN test, in conjunction with Creatinine level, is what is used to measure kidney function.
