If you don't, aren't you willfully disobeying God, and if you disregard it more than once (or even continually) aren't you saying that you don't care what Jesus says, you don't want to listen and would rather go to Hell than obey his words?

I'm asking because earlier it was brought to my attention a couple verses that I had long forgot: In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said: "Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again." (Luke 6:30, repeated in Matthew 5:42 where he says "Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away").

Go ahead and read the verses around it. This is not a parable, nor is it taken out of context. So theologically speaking, shouldn't Christians either do as Jesus says, or accept that they really don't believe in him enough to follow his word literally?

I would say that if he tells you something directly, take it directly.

the hot testomony is literal in some places and allegorical in others. for occasion, Jesus suggested that "i'm going to make you fishers of fellows." that did no longer propose that the Apostles have been to seize those with a internet till now they evangelized. Or, he might say, "i'm a door", that did no longer propose that he grew hinges. people knew what he meant while he suggested those issues, for in the context wherein he suggested them, it strengthen into obtrusive that it strengthen into allegorical. An occasion of him meaning some thing actually (and that i understand no longer anybody might accept as true with me) is John 6, the Bread of life discourse: "i'm the dwelling bread that got here down from heaven. If everyone eats of this bread, he will stay for ever. This bread is my flesh, which i'm going to provide for the life of the international" some Christians take this as allegorical or symbolic. although, in case you examine it in the context of the comprehensive financial ruin, you will see that he strengthen into speaking actually. I say this with the aid of fact while his disciples began to argue, he clarified that "[his] flesh is actual foodstuff and [his] blood is actual drink." This on my own would desire to enable the reader understand that he's speaking actually. although, he does no longer provide up there. He added enforces the seriousness of what he suggested, while the quite a few disciples left and "now no longer accompanied him." somewhat of going after the disciples that left and explaining that each and every little thing he suggested strengthen into allegorical or symbolic, he became to the twelve and suggested, "you do no longer % to circulate away too, do you?" a guy or woman who reads the bible has to take it the two actually and figuratively reckoning on the context.

Only Christians would know when Jesus was speaking in a parable, and even then, sometimes may not get it. Who are we to judge His words? The only true way to discern the truth is the Holy Spirit reveals it to us. Mark 4:34 says Jesus did not speak to the unbelieving without a parable, but He always explained things to His own.

yea they should do what jesus tells them to... in this case in these verse it is talking about people who hate you so in this verse it talking about forceful taking. and not going after them. read the verse before it with this one. "If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. if someone demands you shirt then give him your coat also. Give to anyone who asks and when things are taken away from you, don't try to get them back"

As Christians we are to follow the word of Christ Risen from the dead, NOT His words to the Nation Israel. God isn't operating under the law of Moses today but under the "preaching of Jesus Christ ACCORDING to the REVELATION of the mystery which was Kept SECRET since the world began..." Rom. 16:25

Christians are not expected to follow the red letter words of Jesus while He ministered on the earth. THOSE instructions were , in His OWN words, to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. The church which is His Body wasn't even in existance at that time, as Jesus was ministering to the JEWS in their KINGDOM program.

The words of Christ risen from the dead are revealed, the bible tells us ,to OUR apostle, Paul. We find THOSE words in Romans thru Philemon.

Most professing christians today are ignorant of the plan that God has laid out in His Word concerning the change from Judaism to Christianity...or from LAW to GRACE. They try to put themselves and others under instructions never intended to be observed or obeyed by them, and think that this somehow makes points with God. God wants us to believe and cooperate with him in HIS goal of "making ALL men SEE what IS the REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY...." Eph. 3:9

If you don't know what these mystery truths ARE that were given to Paul to give to US today, you may be one of those christians who are trying to live by the wrong set of instructions.

In the verses you cite, Yeshua is not telling us to give to just "anyone" who asks us for stuff. That would be insane. We are to be wise, and if someone is truly in need, then yes, we should give them what they need with no expectation of anything back from them. This isn't "give and take", it's GIVE. But we are to be wise and not give to a thief.

A man who drinks his money away does not deserve our money to help him drink some more. We have to be wise in matters of giving. Never give an alcoholic money...give him food. If that guy comes over wanting to borrow your lawn mower, when he has a yard full of rocks, then you are not obligated to loan him your tools.

Be wise in all things. Give to those in need. IN NEED.

The Bible says lots of things that can be interpreted a lot of different ways so it doesn't make any sense to wrangle each sentence.
Just read into it what you want and live your life like you think Jesus would want you to.
What you understand is the truth to you.

Jesus doesn't speak to anyone. He's dead and has been dead for 2000 years. He never wrote anything himself because he was an illiterate carpenter who found it more profitable as a "prophet" than a laborer. He was a lazy con man that still tricks people.

Yes when Jesus is not speaking in parables you are to take it literally. Such as John 6 Jesus is speaking literally here it is not a parable as many Protestants think

John 6: 30They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

31Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

32Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

41The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

42And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

43Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

44No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

46Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

47Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

48I am that bread of life.

49Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

52The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

53Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

54Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

59These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

62What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

67Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

69And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

When Jesus said "Except ye eat my flesh." it was his subtle way of calling them maggots, but they didn't get it.

Consequently, church folks have a whole big holy ritual surrounding that facetious remark.
