As-salaamu alaikum,

Ijtihad is not "reading the Quran and Hadith and come up with your own interpretation without the help of scholars." This definition does not exist anywhere. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said "whoever gives his own opinion [about the sharia] without knowledge, then let him prepare himself for his place in hellfire."

The true Ijtihad means that before a person gives his/her opinion, they should first have full knowledge of Quran, Hadith, Arabic language in order to understand them, the situations in which the verses of the Quran were revealed, the historical situations in which the Hadiths were said, among many things that are absolutely necessary to give a learned opinion in Sharia. Other than that, these opinions are totally invalid and even are misguiding.

The scholars of Islam are not just people who sit and write their opinions, they must be people who have mastered the above-mentioned sciences, and because of that, their opinions are valid, not because they took the name of "scholar". When one does not have enough knowledge of the sciences of Sharia, the correct and safe thing is to follow a qualified scholar, otherwise, each and every person will create their own Sharia.

Hope this makes things clear.

Salaam/peace.

Asalamu alaikum wwb dear brother I do the same with you.But I tried to understand its interpretations marde by the scholars of Qur'an and Hadits.I do not understand its arabic language. If I found the questionable inter[pretation or against with other Qur'an's verses or hadits I recorded it on a paper and then I asked for its explanation from my imam or islamic teacher.I do not prefer a blid taqlid except about unseen or ghaib issues.Wassalamu alaikum w.wb.

Taqlid which is said by you to be blind faith in the scholars of Islam without asking questions.

Giving judgement is not permissible for someone who has not been endowed by Allah with the qualities of inner purity, sincerity in both his hidden and visible actions, and a proof from his Lord in every state. This is because whoever has judged has decreed, and decree is only valid by the permission of Allah and by His proof. Whoever is liberal in his judgement, without having made a proper examination, is ignorant and will be taken to task for his ignorance and will be burdened with his judgement as the tradition indicates. Knowledge is a light, which Allah casts into the heart of whomsoever He wills.

The Holy Prophet said, 'Whoever is boldest among you in judging is also the most insolent to Allah'. Does not the judge know that he is the one who has come between Allah and His bondsmen, and that he is wavering between the Garden and the Fire? Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah said, 'How can anyone else benefit from my knowledge if I have denied myself its benefit?' It is inappropriate for anyone to judge on what is permissible (halal) and what is forbidden (haram) among creation, except for one who causes the people of his time, his village, and his city to follow the truth through obedience to the Holy Prophet and who recognizes what is applicable of his judgement. The Holy Prophet said, 'It is because giving judgement is such a tremendous affair, in which there is no place for "hopefully", "perhaps" or "may be".

The Commander of the Faithful said to a judge, 'Do you know the difference between those verses of the Qur'an which abrogate and those which are abrogated?'

'No'.

'Do you have a command of the intentions of Allah in the parables of the Qur'an?'

'No'.

'Then you have perished and caused others to perish,' the Commander of the Faithful replied.

A judge needs to know the various meanings of the Qur'an, the truth of the Prophetic way, the inward indications, courtesies, consensus and disagreements, and to be familiar with the bases of what they agree upon and disagree about. Then he must have acute discrimination, sound action, wisdom, and precaution. If he has these things, then let him judge

I follow scholar since:
1. I am not mastering many hadiths
2. I don't know Arabic
3. I am just human, I am afraid I will make interpretation of verses and hadiths to fix in my desire

But I dislike to be considered TAQLID since:
I need to know the reason, I don't follow them blindly when they say it or that, I will ask, where's the daleel and what usl fiqh that used, I want to know the process so scholars can say it's halal, haram, makruh or mubah, I don't think it's taqlid

Ijtihad is an incredibly important aspect of Islam, especially when it comes to modern day times and modern day situations. But it really requires knowledge and pure intentions, not just guesses, assumptions and decisions based on what is desired.
Taqlid imho is not at all Islam and those who believe it is the way to go are deluding themselves.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise." - Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1631
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Seeking knowledge in (the company of others) for an hour in the night is better than spending the whole night in prayer." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 91

Salamuliakum wa rahmatullah!!

Brother I believe in Ijtihad!!
I believe in this because diffferent scholars have different interpretations (So u don't know which is correct!) So I first ask the imams and scholars then I find a meaning by myself and trust my instincts and put faith into Allah for the right meaning!! So Ijtihad and Taqlid is both good, but one over the othere is not good!! I don't know why we fight over this......lets just put our faith in Allah, follow the quran and hadith and let our dark soul be enlightened with raa from Allah (swt)!!
PBUU Muslim brother!!
Kudha Hafesh!!
