Could witnessing be an invasion of privacy?
Wouldn't it be better to witness to others only if they ask why you have this hope in you?
Should we allow others pressure us into witnessing if we feel that we are not ready for that?
Isn't it best to just learn to grow in the Lord and allow Him to do everything?
I never ask anyone to my church unless it is one of my kids teen ager friends, only with my kids permission of course.
Am I right, what do you think?

I understand that it was a command to the disciples but I also know that the bible says to give an answer to some one who may ask. I know that we are to let our light shine and I know the steps to take to make this happen, but remember, some plant seeds, some water and some reap the harvest.
I know that it is God who works in us to will and to do of his good pleasure and I was thinking that this must be his way of working in me.
I believe in the gospel of Christ and I testify to it because his Spirit is in me.
How about Jesus being friends with sinners? He sat down with people (that were considered sinful) and laughed with them, ate with them and was a friend. I think that this is important to the Lord Jesus and he wants to befriend them through us. Perhaps just out of love and not expecting anything in return, God knows.
Well, we all have our own views, but please know that I do not deliberately pick and choose as I wish from Gods word. Thanks for ur comments.

Yes, yes, yes, no, yes, and yes. (I think I read six questions *smile*).

Yes, we should witness. The problem is that lots of people have witnessing confused with advocacy or even preaching. Some people may have a calling to preach the word to others, but if you don't doing so is a mistake. Witnessing doesn't involve persuasion or invasion of privacy, it involves giving truthful testimony in response to questions...more importantly, it involves being a living testimony to the grace and love of Jesus. Every word, every action is a witness.

I don't think Christians ought hide their light under a basket...I don't think you should necessarily wait until they ask before you give God the credit for the hope and peace and whatever else you have in your life because of him, but there's a big difference between giving God credit for the blessings in your life and trying to persuade someone else to do the same!

WDJD?

Did Jesus keep things to himself; keep his mouth shut? Matthew ch. 10 has Jesus sending his apostles out to the villages around with a message of "the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near." He did not say whisper only if someone asks you.

At Matt.24:14 is the command for us today to preach the good news of that Kingdom of God into all the people of the earth. There was no maybe or if you can. It was DO!

Kazoo M- the early Christians did not wait to be approached.
They went from DOOR TO DOOR!!!

Matthew 10:11-13
“Into whatever city or village you enter, search out who in it is deserving, and stay there until you leave. When you are entering into the HOUSE, greet the household; and if the HOUSE is deserving, let the peace you wish it come upon it; but if it is not deserving, let the peace from you return upon you.

Acts 20:20
while I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from HOUSE TO HOUSE.

Jesus last words was ," But ye shall receive power , after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth". If they don't go to church ,how are they going to know that everyone is a sinner and deserving eternal punishment and God is offering a free gift of eternal salvation to all who wants to hear.Romans 10:17 " So then faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the word of God ".When will you be ready to witness ? Its the same with every thing in life repetition, repetition . At least pass out a gospel tract , they will not be shy to witness .How else will you earn your rewards in Heaven ? You are doing his will. www.fbbc.com

The above should mimic the missionary aspect.
Never infringe on another individuals space, when the latter is performed hostility is usually noted.

When Jesus and His Apostles walked the Earth they simply passed through villages awaiting the lost sheep to approach.

Ocassionally, Jesus would venture out and find the right person to demonstrate a miracle in the hope others around the scene would notice.
The majority of miracles Jesus performed were physically demonstrated to show His human side which would allow mankind a better depth of understanding.

Jesus never needed to touch anyone to perform a miracle as noted on a few occassions.
However, individuals with a lack of faith need to see with their own eyes using a physical means.

Jesus: "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe" John 20:29

The command from our Lord Jesus Christ is found at Matthew 28 v 19 & 20. The Apostle Paul went witnessing in the market place, synogogue and house to house.
Romans 10 v 13 & 14 tells us that how will people know unless some goes to preach.

It is an invasion of privacy, however standing on the old orange box in a market place is OK, as long as you don't badger people. mind you the bl##dy TV ads are just as bad.

I agree with OP wholeheartedly. I'm perfectly happy to witness, but NOT unsolicited or to anyone who isn't interested. If someone asks me a question or makes it clear that they're curious, I'll say something. Like here on Y!A. Only in appropriate situations, basically.

Witnessing is no big deal. You just stand before the congregation and tell them all true lies about what you actually believe. Anyone can decline to witness if they choose. That's the way it was in my church anyway.
