I want to be a filmmaker/director. I currently have a Sony Handicam 8 which I've used a bit but I know that's not up to professional standards. I'd like to know what's a good professional camera that I could get started with and how much $ we're talking about?

use your video 8 to test shots, lighting and concepts. when it looks right, simply rent the pro gear as needed.
