I'm NOT going to leave food out for her all the time. She's still an 8 week old puppy. If I do that she'll over eat.

She's a Dachshund by the way.

She's fed Canidae so I don't believe she's being fed low end.

There really is no gold standard as to how much or how often any dog should be fed. As far as amount, follow the guidelines on the bag, feeding towards the low end if the dog is on the heavy side and vice versa if the dog is on the lean side. As far as how often, play around with the number of times per day and the actual times you feed, evaluate your dog's energy level and go from there.

I fed my dog four times a day until she was 4 months old, then 3 times a day until she started to loose interest in the extra meal which was around 10 months. She is still fed twice a day and is a healthy 2 and 1/2 year old! She had puppy food until she was one year old.

depends on the breed of the dog. My mastiff puppy eats up to 3 times a day still and hes 7 months old. But something such as a beagle(smnall breed) would only eat 3 times a week until its....... well actually i dont know : )

It's not the most important to feed them multiple times a day, it's the quantity altogether. What makes you feed them multiple times a day is to get the proper total amount, but you can't do that in one or two feedings if their stomach is still small.
So depends on what breed, large breeds are different than small breeds. because of bigger stomachs. I have a golden retriever and around 4 months, I was giving him the same amount total quantity, but switched to leave out the lunch time feeding, and now just feed in the morning and at dinner.
