Wow the fundies sure came out of the woodoworks here.
We naturally anthropomorphize the world around us. Lets say you are watching TV, then you hear a thud on the other side of the wall. Your first instinct is to think there is someone there, if only for a second.
With religion it's the same thing, only I think it came out of our marvel at the world around us and our inability to explain said world. So that brings us to Paley's watchmaker argument and the concept of a designer and then God.

God is not an "idea" he is God and never question that. We did not appear by random accident because that's just stupid. God created everyone. He has always been and always will be no matter how a bunch of stupid scientists try to poach is existence. The fact that God has always existed is beyond out tiny minds to comprehend but it's the truth. I don't understand how people say that it's impossible that there is a God but yet they think it is possible for all of mankind to have come from monkeys when we haven't even seen a monkey turn into a human yet. We have evedence of God all around us like the trees and the grass and you and me and just about everything is evendance of a creator. Design is proof of a designer.

It is my belief that the idea of a god came soon after we became aware of ourselves as separate from others, i.e. self awareness.. It became obvious we could control very little in our environment. A lot of folk can't live in a world that is not controlled by someone or some thing, i.e. the world as it exists. So, they made up gods for all the thing that were strong and scary to them. Over time folks found it more economical to have less and less gods, and they evolved into one god who was in control of everything.

Honey, God is not an idea, God is three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who form the Trinity. One God in Three Divine Persons. You ask how do we know this?
God revealed himself to Adam and Eve. And then God gave the testimony in written form to Moses and his scribes, who were told to write down what became the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible.
What did God reveal? He revealed that He is the Divine Creator of the universe, of man, and the Author of Life. He revealed His Plan and continued over the next several thousand years to speak through Prophets and Kings to reveal this Plan for the salvation of all of mankind.
If you have not read the Word of God or considered his teachings, we invite you to ponder the Mystery of His Love. See the links below.

The truth about God is known to us instinctively, for God put this knowledge in our hearts before we are born.

God is not an "idea", He is a divine, sovereign, eternal, spiritual being who chose to reveal Himself to certain people, at certain times, in certain places, in His way. He chooses to reveal Himself for His good pleasure, for His purposes, and for His glory.
