Hi! I'm having my rehersal dinner at my parents house. I'm looking for ideas on themes, or food, anything to make it special, but not overly expensive. I thought of doing chinese food because my fiancee and I met at a chinese food place. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Yeah that's my concern is that not everyone likes Chinese. Maybe we could do a cocktail type party...but still have the fortune cookies!

I love the chinese food Idea. I think it's cute and inexpensive. Make sure to have at least a couple dishes everyone likes, Like sweet and sour, fried rice, steamed rice, veggie stir fry, lo mein and don't forget the fortune cookies. My friend had chinese for her reception. No one complained.

I know you said your worried that not everyone might not like chineese food, but I have an idea.
How about you do it buffett style and have chineese food BUT also have some simple green salads, plain pastas or plain noodles and some chicken(not a roast, but like, barbaque chicken and fried chicken) and the rest Chineese!
They also have sometime ribs at Chineese places and I love them, because they taste like regular ribs, so get a few bags of those.
So yes, have a chineese theeme, you can have chopsticks(get them at a party store) and get some Chineese New Year decorations(also get them at a party store) and hang them up.
Good luck and congrats!

You could do some kind of chicken, like sweet and sour, with friend rice and egg rolls. Even though alot of people don't like Chinese, these are some really common and tasty foods that don't have all the "chinese food" qualities that alot of people don't like. Get some paper lanterns and stuff for decorations and some chopsticks for the people who want to use them! Good luck and have a great time with it!

Have a buffet with several types of Chinese food. At least one dish not spicy. Also offer an alternative such as a pan of lasagna and a salad. The personalized fortune sound great.
maybe decorate with Chinese paper lanterns.

I love the Chinese food idea, especially since it is personal to both of you. Most people do like Chinese. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't. But you can have American food on hand for those who don't.

Just do the fortune cookies (maybe with personalized messages inside), unless you are sure everyone likes Chinese.

I think traditional would be best. But it is your wedding, so do what you want.

You don't say what time of year but outdoor cooking is fun - can be simplier than in the movie my big fat greek wedding - but just as fun.

That's a GREAT idea... and personal! Check around and see if you have any Chinese places that will cater; we have several here who will do a large volume of food. No one will forget that rehersal dinner, that's for sure. You could even give away personalized fortune cookies for dessert or put your attendent gifts in rice boxes. How cute and non-traditional! :) Good luck.
