Tawaen - the question may not be crafted well but apprently it's making sense to those who can perceive.

Linlyons - I don't know about trolls (apparently you do). And how the hell do you know what I may or may not accept? This is an honest question.

Not sure what is true and what is there as a metaphor or to make a point, but the "big" issues I think are true and the rest is not really important if it is true or not.

The Bible was written and re-written by the hand of man many times over. Is there anyone walking the earth that truly knows what has been lost in translation or what ever was fact. Everyones faith lies within themselves so the criteria we could say is diverse and vast. Its not so much as an omition as it is what each individual perceives based on their life's experiences and environment. I could care less what any human believes but Peace over Violence should span all living things. You ask a question about religion so you can prolly expect a can of worms man. Good luck with your question, I for one think it is a reasonable question.

It's a decent question, since it raises the one of whether the judging criteria might be flawed.
(And how is that to be judged? This can turn into a metaphysical spiral)

One at least potential escape route is considering (apparent)internal inconsistency.
Anything which displays inconsistency in its own terms, not against any external criteria, is at least due for critical inspection to see if it can be resolved. If it can't, or the explanation is tortuous, highly improbable or contrived, then somewhere something is untrue.

And if inerrancy, (as given, in the original language) is the requirement, one real flaw brings the whole edifice tumbling down, at least as inspired, God -given.

First off, this is an excellent question and indicative of someone with a truly open mind, which is rare in this sphere of conversation.

In my mind, ignoring the portions that preach exclusion or bigotry is a good place to start. Jesus' ultimate message was 'treat others as you would like to be treated'. Start there and whatever doesn't support or supplement that simple yet profound message should be summarily ignored as unintended dogma.

criteria is based on your upbringing, but like anything else you incorporate whatever into your life that fits your need... so like food, choose which parts works for you and/or try reading other great books on budhaism, zen, hinduism... etc.... and feel whether some of their teachings resound w/ you or not
