It depends on how old your child(ren) are. Mine is 13, and I will not allow it. I have seen some of her friend's Facebook pages, and some are just revolting (and I am far from a prude). Others, even the girls, give out WAY too much information, including either their full name and town, or first name and street address, and any creep or predator who wanted to could easily find them. It makes me shudder.

My 13 year old daughter has a myspace account (similar to facebook) and I know her password and who everyone on her friends list is. She is actually fairly shy and I set it up for her so she could communicate more with her friends. Plus we just moved not too long ago, so she can communicate easier with friends from her old town. She doesn't abuse it and knows that it only takes 30 seconds to delete the whole account if she does. I can read over her shoulder as i pass by if she is typing and if not, again - account is deleted. She also knows that I will follow through on what I say about it. I do know of other kids whose accounts should have been deleted A LONG TIME AGO because they (in my opinion) are VERY innapropriate for someone their age. If as a parent you monitor it, then it can be a fun communication tool.

I would let him if he were at least 15 and either let me go on his account so I could monitor him, or if I made an account and insisted that he add me as a friend so I can keep an eye on things. I'm fine with him having some privacy, but not at the risk of his safety.

I have one. I tried to make sure my mom wouldn't find out, but she did, somehow. I thought she would totally freak, but to my surprise, she let me keep it.
I think facebook's pretty safe, and allows you to keep in touch. In my opinion, it's much safer than other social networking sites like myspace.

I would. I've allowed my kids to have myspace accounts but there is rules to it.
1) i know your login and password to the account
2) I know who is on your page and they dont make it there till we have approved it as parents.
3) people on your page MUST be friends from school that you and i know
4) no internet aquantences/ you only talk to them on the net
5) Important info will not be posted
6)No pictures of your self will be posted.
7) What you say to friends on their you must beable to say to your parents
8) Profile must be private
Those are my rules and thats what is to be gone by when it comes to places like myspace or face book or any other netowrking or chat site there is.
