I started going to a new church and accepted the Lord a few months ago. It's not a cult or anything, just a good, Bible-believing Baptist church. The problem is one of the things they teach is that Deuteronomy 22:5 requires that men and women should dress differently. After much Bible study and talking to other girls in my Sunday school class, I felt convicted to start dressing modestly, quit wearing pants and always wear dresses and skirts. I feel this is something that God wants me to do and I won't be talked out of it. The problem is my mom just keeps giving me grief all the time about it, she's sort of a feminist, unfortunately. How can I convince her that this is my decision and what I think is the right thing to do? She doesn't have to agree with me, but she should at least respect my decisions. By the way, I'm 19 now and legally an adult.

Just tell her you've prayed about it and you have to do what you are led to do. In Jesus' words, not her will, but God's be done.

Hmm...............maybe your mother's concern is more about the change in you since you started going to church. I know my mother did when I 'got religion'. Fortunately, I grew out of it and saw it for what it was.
The interesting comment is that "she should at least respect my decision". Well, you know..........respect has to be earned. And............having been 19 once............I know that not all decisions made at that age are on a sound basis altough you will believe they are.
Your mother cares about your welfare and although your views may be diferent it would be unkind and unfair to assume that she does not have your best interests at heart.

You are 19 now, so get used to the idea that your mother is going to keep on bugging you, just as she has always done. Until your mother accepts Christ, she will see things in the way she has become accustomed, just as you did before coming to Christ. Besides, mothers and children bug each other forever, even in Paradise, I'll bet.

I go to a very laidback church and sometimes I dress up and sometimes I don't. I completely respect your decision and I am thrilled that you are walking with the Lord! Try explaining this to your mom very calmly, and if that doesn't work, tell her that this is completely your decision and that you are not a feminist. Please say this in a calm manner because then you will have a much better chance of her respecting you! God gave us all different minds and that is obvious through you and your mom! I hope I helped! GOD Bless!

I think you are OK, I expected in your question that you may be dressing a little to skimpy but not being the case .You should tell her why you have chosen this way and she should respect your decision.

listen to her opinion but tell her that in the end what you do or wear is your choice. you are an adult now so you get to make your decisions. but be sure to follow your religious beliefs and remember to do what's right.

god doesnt care how you dress. I use to go to bible study 5 times a week and trust me god doesnt care how you dress as long as you dont dress like a slut.
tell your mom its not her place to tell you how to dress.
just remember, god just wants you to be a good person. dont get all tied up with people at church telling you what to do.

At 19 you can dress as you please ....
but, if you are still living in her house, you will still have to listen to her opinions.
If you are out on your own, tell her to 'go be fruitful and multiply herself'

You cannot stop some one else from voicing their opinion no matter how absurd. Look at this forum.
