I think it's another possibility. In general, it seems like both atheists and scientists believe that the best method for belief acquisition is hypothesis testing. That belief (which, admittedly is metaphysical) both leads to atheism and a love of science.

Historically there have been tons of theists who have made huge contributions to the sciences. To suggest otherwise is just wishful propaganda.

No, but I'm attracted to science nerds... They tend to like video games and reading. I'm a fan of guys in glasses, what can I say?
Talk logic to me!

Aethists are attracted to science because they aren't attractive; they're basically ugly.

I believe so. Science is a contributing reason why I don't believe the bible and the existence of God...Scientist are thinkers, they have PROVEN many inconsistencies in the bible.
Examples:
A man living in the body of a whale.
One man collecting two of all living things and building a ship big enough to house them.
The life expectancy of many people in the bible in reality would be shorter and not longer because of the lack of medical care, clean environment, and properly stored food.
Well you get the point.

I was told in college atheism is more popular in psychology, than the hard sciences. I also remember reading that Rhode Island School of Design (an art school) boasted the highest percentage of professing atheists in higher education. This was at least ten years ago, so I could be wrong.
(Sending book this week).

You have it the wrong way round - scientists are more attracted to atheism
This is because science requires independent and critical thought rather than blind acceptance and belief
