i've heard that during any leap year (which 2008 is), it is okay for the woman to propose to the man... I know it may be out dated, but can anyone provide any reference source about this "custom"?

Leap Year has been the traditional time that women can propose marriage. In many of today's cultures, it is okay for a woman to propose marriage to a man. Society doesn't look down on such women. However, that hasn't always been the case. When the rules of courtship were stricter, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years. That day was February 29th.

I've never heard that custom about leap years. I wouldn't go waiting for you girl to propose to you, though. I think the vast majority of women are still too traditional for that sort of thing.

I know women that have proposed to men, but never heard anything about the whole leap year thing. It's not a custom...
