Einstein's statement about energy had *nothing* to do with proving an "afterlife."
That said, after death the corpse becomes food for other animals, both microscopic and macroscopic. *That's* what happens to the energy.
Since who we are is a product of a functioning brain, after brain death we cease to exist, as do all animals.

I am not 100 per cant sure whether we have an afterlife but I do know that if we do then so do animals. I am hoping that the dog I had as a child is waiting for me at the rainbow bridge.

Yes. There two energies: one material and one spiritual. Of the two energies manifest [spirit and dull matter], beings possessing living force [vegetables, grass, trees and plants] are superior to dull matter [stone, earth, etc.]. Superior to nonmoving plants and vegetables are worms and snakes, which can move. Superior to worms and snakes are animals that have developed intelligence. Superior to animals are human beings. From Bhagavad-gitä we understand that the Inferior energy consists of the five gross and three subtle material elements. And the superior energy, the living entity, the soul, appears in different types of bodies through these elements. Actually both the material and spiritual energies—matter and spirit—exist eternally as potencies of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, therefore they never desappear or die. The potent entity is the Supreme Person. Since the spiritual energy, the living being(the soul), who is part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, desires to enjoy this material world, the Lord gives him a chance to accept different types of material bodies(aquatics, plants, insects, beast, or humans) and enjoy or suffer in different material conditions.

You are SO right Melissa. All animals have souls just like us and they keep on going just like us when they die.

Neither man nor animals have an afterlife. Afterlife is not a Bible teaching at all.

I'm not sure Einstein engaged the mystery of afterlife in his studies BUT...I agree that energy can neither be created or destroyed. Using this reasoning, then dogs and all living things are recycled in the universe. Happy NEw Year.

If you accept that statement then the answer is clearly Yes.
My tarot teacher had a cat who died and she said that she'd received a communication from it.....much as I respect her and her abilities I'm not taking that as absolute proof though.
I'm definitely of the "I'll have an open mind but I'll believe it when I experience it for myself" school.
And anyway, it doesn't matter what we believe - we should only believe what can be proven. Right now the only proof we have of any afterlife is that we're not aware of any....
