Okay, so I'm not much of a religious person. I have my own beliefs, and that's my deal. But I don't understand why people pray for such petty things sometimes. Someone on Yahoo Answers asked everyone to pray that some girl forgives him because she is mad at him. I was sick and in pain a couple months ago, but it was nothing life-threatening, and people were "praying" for me. I just think there are more important things to pray for than things like that. What's your opinion? I'd like to know. Thanks.

To "Professor Cuddles": For some things, yes, I could see what you mean that I don't know how they feel. But for example, when people are praying for ME for a reason I don't think they should be, then I reserve the right to call it a petty prayer.

I don't think it's up to you to judge people like that, okay? You don't know how they're feeling, what seems petty to you could seem tragic to whoever it is happening to.
God hears all prayers, no matter how "petty." He listens. He cares.

will i like your question, you are Right there are more important things to pray for ,i mean what you pray for need to be great thing ,special ,never ever been like it before,i mean you cant pray for any or every thing ,you just pray for one and only thing ,why?? because you believe its the only one who you can go to any time ,if you are in pain or thanks full or lonely or sick or felling bad or good , in need of something or.........etc you don't have to be religious to feel or think this way
,for me i only pray for Allah (god)
hope to know what you think about my answer

Our Father is concerned about our needs. I agree that a lot of what is prayed for is very selfish.
I'm glad that people were praying for you in your time of pain. Who wouldn't want that?
I would hope that people loved me enough to go to the Almighty to ease my pain. That's not a "worthless" prayer. That's love.
Our prayers must line-up with what is Scripturally sound. Prayers for the return of a boyfriend, or girlfriend, are very selfish prayers and will not be answered.
Prayers for deeper understanding of Scripture...a closer bond with the Father...a better "walk" with the Messiah. These prayers will certainly be answered if asked with a sincere heart.
Prayers that cater to our flesh will NEVER be answered. It's not because He doesn't care, but because He does care.
He desires that we desire Him. That's where life truly begins. That's where prayer gets real results. Once we see how petty and selfish we are, and make the hard choice to forsake our wants, Father will reward us in ways we could have never imagined while we were looking at ourselves. I hope this makes sense.

No prayer is unimportant.
Pretend you are a parent. Your child wants someone to forgive them. You see the pain it causes them, not being forgiven. So, obviosly you want them to be forgiven, right?
Well, God, as our father wants us to live a life in him, and listens to every word we utter up to Him.
Plus, chances are, if someone one is praying for forgivness, they are also praying for "important" things, as you put it.

Have you ever heard the phrase - " It doesn't hurt to ask?" That's the amazing thing about God. NOTHING is beyond his sight.
He is the God of love and compassion and He wants none to suffer. But, only He knows the circumstances around this petitionary prayer. As an outsider, you know nothing of what is going on within someone else and we are called as Christians, to hold each other up in all trials. What seems petty to you could be huge, HUGE to another person. Even life threatening.
This guy you told about could have been at the end of his rope with this "last" girlfriend and suicide could have been contemplated. You don't know. We don't know. All I know is prayer WORKS and I will show my love for this stranger by his request. Want to join the family?

That's the whole attraction of an imaginary friend. You don't have take make any decisions about anything at all, ever!
Just ask your god to fix it up for you --- and then sit back on your bum and see what happens.
