he comes home with blatant christian teachings which of course have no proof but will also not give up which teachers are "witnessing" to him

we have to sit him down and deprogram him all the time, show him that what they are telling him is an opinion, even if popular, is not necessarily to be his

my kid's religion or lack of it is my business...

how does a parent go about stopping this?

last year, we did a spoof of christmas and did Saturnalia

my kid told his teacher and came home with Saturnalia info ( I liked her much more than his 10 lb silver cross wearing fundie he has now)

we keep thinking it won't happen...

I imagine the principle is christian as is the board...if a teacher is 'busted' the justice will have to come from the District Super (possibly goes to same Bible Mega Church)

I think saying the students are witnessing (2nd graders) is a cop out unless you are talking about 5th graders

but a teacher using a known christian student for a mouthpiece? brilliant

let my child decide?

HELLO!

that's what parents are for. we stand in the way of people putting adult content into their heads before they are ready...

we counter the propaganda of christianity and "neutralize" it....

that's what I mean by deprogramming

we show him using google and other things all sides of the coin, not one sided indoctrination

I'd need specifics, because that sounds very atypical of a sane teacher.

If what you say is true, then you need to go to the prinicipal, then the school board, and then hire a lawyer if no action is taken.

If that actually happened to my child I would be completely up in arms.

Luckily, as a public school teacher myself, I find that none of us really have time (nor the inclination) to do that kind of unprofessional activities.

DO NOT CONTACT THE ACLU THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE they are more likely to support your teacher's right to preach his/her religion as a free speech right

Contact a secularist organization such as the Freedom from Religion Foundation or American Humanist Association.

Have a meeting with the school principal. Tell them your concerns and ask for an investigation. I had this same problem with my son last year but we knew who it was cause he only had one teacher. The school has to do something about it and if they don't you go straight to the school board and request a meeting. What your sons teachers are doing is breaking the law and if and when you find out who is doing it, they will severely punish them if not fire them. It all depends on how big of an issue you make of it.

So you're scared stiff! What's the matter? Your child shows more sense then his parents? That's what it sounds like to me. You're "telling him its not real" but you fail to show him "how real is your opinion". Look who's calling the kettle black!

Grow up You child will pick his way. Right now I see God equals 2. Satan equals ZERO!

Hurray for God. He'll always win. Good for your child. I will pray very hard for your child to keep learning the right thing at school and pray for the Christian Angel that is making it happen. As for you. Go away Satan, Jesus has kept another soul.

May you fry in hell.

That doesn't sound right. Take it to the board of ed, if you think the principal is allowing this to happen. Indoctrination should NOT take place in public school. Education in the form of history and facts are OK, but religious education in public school is unacceptable. If the board of ed won't do anything about it, I would suggest pulling your child from that school and finding another one. Try a private school, if you have to. If you're able to homeschool, then you may have to do that.

You could also call your local news station and let them know what's happening. Negative publicity has a way of making school boards step in line with the law.

Talk to the principal and if he does nothing go to the school board itself. It is perfectly fine if they have christian teachers but those same teachers should know better. Public school is not the place for them to be preaching their religion.

Its a shame that you are only willing to protect your child in this life. Let your child learn and take him to church.

Well, without proof, you can't really do anything. If other teachers will alibi for them, there is almost nothing that will counter that. You're best bet is to try and find someone sympathetic in administration. Take your complaints to them, be extremly calm and rational, that is VERY IMPORTANT! You will not make any progress if you go in angry and combative.

There is a slim chance of progress if you speak with the teacher about it. Again, be very calm and reasonable, don't threaten, and don't try to make it seem like it's you against them.

Good luck.

Take the matter to the principal. If she won't listen, go to the superintendent. If that fails, go to the school board. You could also go to the paper with your allegations and they might want to do an expose` on it.
Been down this road. Beat the system. It can be done!

Its a tough situation but I think you should keep doing what you are doing. Tell him the other side of things, Im sure he will apreciate it. its also quality time between you both, I think he will also respect you because he will see you as a teacher too and of course also as a parent who cares enough for him.

Good luck
