I want to adopt this cat, male, but it has Feline Leu. Can it spread on to humans? I want to know because I'm kind of afraid and unsure.

No, but it can be spread from cat to cat THROUGH humans. If you have a cat that has F.L. I urge you to WASH YOUR HANDS with antibacterial soap before you touch any other animal.

F.L. can spread cat to cat like human AIDS can be spread, plus saliva. To be safe, I'd wash hands after any/every contact with an infected cat to a non-infected cat.

If there was any chance, then the cat would have been put down.

NO, feline leukemia is 'FELINE' only, it can't spread to dogs, birds, humans, horses or any other animal other than felines.

There's a couple of very good feline leukemia lists over on yahoogroups, you can join and talk to owners who have cats like this, to find out what you need to know to keep your cat healthy.

You are safe. Make sure that this cat will be an indoor cat, as letting it go outside will expose other cats in the neighborhood to the disease.

Lots of good information at the links below

No - but Feline Leukemia is a deadly, incurable cat disease so you'd be taking in a cat that could end up very sick and dying in a short period of time. And if you have any other cats you would have to make sure they've been immunized against FeLv. However, it isn't a 100% protection - there's a small chance that they could still become infected.

No, but make sure when you get the cat you take him to the vet.

No, it cannot be spread to humans. It is an entirely different disease from human Leukemia.

PLEASE DO adopt this boy! Most cats that are FeLuk positive are either put down right away or langusih in shelters. I myself have had three FeLuks. The first died at the age of 4. The other two (who are 2 and 5) are going strong.

Also, I have to tell you that these three cats have been probably the nicest cats I have ever known. I have loved all my cats, but it's almost like these guys try harder. You will be in no danger. Adopt the cat. Good luck!

Oh and Bunfufu2 is right. You'll need to keep him inside so as to protect other cats. FeLuk is easily spread cat to cat.

No it cannot be spread to humans, but it can be spread to other cats, and there is no cure. If you get this cat make sure you are responsible enough to keep it away from any other cats.
