I am 55 now, but when I was just 6 years old my grandfather made me cry because he told me I was going to hell because my father( his son) allowed my mother to take us to the Baptist church.
My grand father was a Jesus Only Apostolic United Pentecostal and their doctrine was they are the only one true church and all others are hell bound.
Do you feel my grandfather was wrong or was he just a strong believer? all my dad's people were of this faith and I grew up with all of them telling me I was going to hell for being a Baptist.
another similar incident was when I was sixteen I spent a week with my mothers uncle who was a baptist preacher. My dad's brother lived on the next street over so I spent some time with him and he told me many times I was going to hell unless I left the Baptist church and started going to the United Pentecostal church

Oh, and don't post that these are three different churches because back in the 1950's and sixtries they were one and the same I know they may be three today but that church has had many splits. Or the the UPC is just a License agency because even so they have huge influence on the teachings.

What is known as child abuse today was just normal behaviour in the 50's and 60's. Children did not have rights back then and was not protected like they are now.

I did not say this was the AOG church. I said specifically it was the Jesus Only, Apastolic United Pentecostals. You know the ones who do not wear jewelry or makeup and woman do not cut their hair and they cannot wear pants or dresses more than 2 inches about their anckle and cannot wear sleevless blouses and must have high necklines and back then it was sinful to watch television or go to movies.

I'm sorry you had such negative experiences and exposure to religion. I'm sorry that your father's family was so closed-minded in their so-called faith. They really do sound like misguided extremist fundamentalists, and are not representative of true Christians, despite their claims. :-(

Truth is presented in many ways and so is ignorance.
I think your grandfather was just saying what he was supposed to say as a member of the church now I would ask:
Are all teh things we hear at church(any denomination or religion) true? Do humans or God himself preaches at the churches? If you said Humans then I would ask. Arent we humans filled with ignorance and sometimes blinded by emotions?
Anyway take it easy God lives in all of us. Just let him be

Your grandfather should have been reported for child abuse. What was he thinking? Nothing like having a family feud through the kids. What a selfish, cruel old man.

Your grandad was definitely out of line. Maybe if you had been a teenager (like 18)........... Besides which if you study scripture, it doesn't teach their "Hell". If you can't be saved, you will be burned up in the cleansing fire that eliminates sin and sinners so YAHOSHUA can make the earth new, and very good. If He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked, why do fools think He gets His jollies by torturing people forever. What nonsense! Hey what kind of bike is that, I can't tell from the pic? Have a good day.

I believe the Pentecostals and their offshoots are some of the biggest brainwashers in this country. I feel for you.

I think your grandfather should have read his Bible. Jesus is the way to heaven, not a specific Church.

Telling a child s/he will go to hell is child abuse. Abuse need not be physical - it can be psychological, verbal, and emotional.
It's criminal in my book.
