got 2 mo question dat i cant seem 2 find out...
1) is the seed coat nessecary for germination?
2)will seeds germinate in the freezer?
3) does the type of soil in which the seed is planted affect seed germination?

Answer to all the six questions are below ===

Q.A) Answer== Seeds can germinate in the soil no matter how they are put in . Remember how a farmer broadcasts seeds of a crop in his field ?
Roots 'know ' where the soil and water are and shoot also knows it way up.
Q..B ) Answer == No , bean seed , or for that matter any seed cannot grow if you cut cotyledon /s or any of its other part. You just do not tamper with them.

Q.C) Answer== No other food source can replace cotyledon /s or endosperm .All the parts are interlinked with hormones and enzymes . It is not like a baby being fed with alternative food source . The mechanism is entirely different and intricate.

Q. 1. ) Answer ==Yes , seed coat is necessary for germination , it imbibes water and the process of germination is triggered to a start . Later on it is discarded by the seedling it self . You cannot force its exit prematurely .

Q.2 ) Answer == No, seed will not germinate in a freezer .

Even in Tundra region only when temp rises the seed germinate and there is greenery all round . Otherwise it is snow / ice only !

Q.3 ) Ans.== No. Seeds can germinate even on a wet moist blotting paper. But , later on when the fledgling seedling becomes a tiny plant let , its growth is determined by the quality / type of the soil .

Any crop cannot grow in any soil is a well known fact .

A. Yes, seeds can germinate in any position. The root system will grow down and the shoot system will grow up no matter which way the seed is placed. Hormones govern their growth.
B. Without cotyledons, they have no food. Answer is no.
C. You can't just feed the embryo. It needs the food stored in the cotyledons. We can't replace that by artificial means.
