I personally use it to describe ONLY my lack of belief in an intelligent entity who rules all and/or created the world. To be quite honest, it mainly describes how I feel about most organized religions - e.g., I'm not buying any. Although I don't actually believe in any version of any god, I have beliefs about the paranormal and that could possibly include things like spirit guides ..... who are not god.

Whoo, I can just imagine all the td's I'm going to get! I shan't even come back and look.

I think the only true statement one can make about atheism is it is the lack of belief in a god or gods.

It is not the same as actively believing that god does not exist. Some atheists believe in ghosts and other things.
