if you were polite as you say then no you were in the right, the only reason some consider it rude is because of the potential to upset people and after a while people start to learn what you do and don't like and accept / compensate for it. i always refused my nan's home made trifle as a kid because until a few years ago i didn't like it, a reasonable host will accept the refusal with good grace and move on without offense.

no it wasn't rude of you..turning down a drink is rude but your grandma is family...perhaps accepting it and not eating it might avoid the problem...your mum will get over it so don't worry anymore...let it go and if she says anything to you about it say 'yeah mom..i know...what am i like!' and shrug

No I don't think it was rude of you at all. I hate when someone offers you something and you politely turn down their offer, but they keep pressing and pressing until you either give in and accept (to shut them up) or come off as a bit rude. But in my opinion, it is rude when someone presses an offer like that. If they ask, you politely say "No thank you", and they continue to press and don't let up, I find that rude. I think for you to finally say "No, I don't like cake" to make it clear to grandma why you didn't want any cake when she obviously wasn't taking no for an answer, was not at all rude. I've had instances like that happen to me before where someone offers food and I say "no thank you" because I'm either too full to eat anything else or simply don't like what food I'm being offered, and they keep insisting and insisting. I finally get to a point where I'm sure I sound rude by saying something like "Really, I don't want any!" For someone to insist a second time doesn't seem rude to me on their part because you sometimes change your mind, but if it's 3, 4, 5 times they keep asking, that's very rude of them and they should take "no thank you" as an answer by that point. Being that it was your grandma, I can see why you might feel bad that you might have come off as rude, but after asking a couple times, she should have stopped.

You did nothing wrong. If you don't want or like cake, don't eat it. Sounds like your mom and grandma have an issue with telling you to do what you don't want to do, or to eat what you don't want. If you said no in a polite tone, they owe you an apology.

Well I think you were right not to take it. Your Mum is possibly fed up with you because food appreciation is sometimes connected in family's with approval. You just go on being honest, but also be diplomatic if you can.
We women like appreciation and in some homes that means what we produce in the kitchen. Just tell Granny you love her for her self.

It could seem rude to your grandma. Next time just take the cake. You don't have to eat it...

it would have been worse if you took some then spat it out! you might get away with her not offering again from now on in to the bargin.
tell them to lighten up it's only cake, it's not like you said you didn't like your gran herself.

The old woman's fault - she shouldn't have pushed the cake so hard
You don't have to pretend to like cake.
Your mother's a silly old baggage for wanting you to lie about the wretched cake.
Sounds as if you have a famuliy full of manipulators
Bad luck!

not rude, but it hurt your granny.
You could have taken a small piece and told grams that you were taking it home for later, just to spare her feelings.

Well, Grandma did ask you a direct question. You had tried to politely refuse & granny wouldn't let up.
So, no I don't think you were rude.
