I've had this ability to spot cars, trucks, vans, etc. from a distance AND even at night. I've always wondered if this was a skill - worthless or not. Perhaps this is a skill that could be applied to some kind of forensic science? Any input would be great.

Yes - there are always opening for volunteers, and for reserve Police Officers.
Your abilities would be extremely helpful at a checkpoint or a roadblock. If I were the incident commander at a roadblock where we were looking for suspects in a particular vehicle, I would station you at a vantage point where you could see vehicles approaching the checkpoint. I would give you binoculars and have you watch for any vehicles in the distance that were turning off on other roads to avoid the roadblock, and have you describe them to our chase vehicles.

I very own a shop, and think of in case you have been doing a survey of what style of automobiles are utilising the roads, it may well be a means nicely worth pursuing. Its interesting which you have this means, yet i don't think of it may well be very rewarding. site visitors lighting fixtures that have digital camera's to capture speeders, hone in on the tag quantity, so once you discover ways to try this from a distance, you would be aggressive, and warrant a place in forensic technology purposes. I applaud your means, yet can see no recent or destiny jobs that could require this style of means. happy to function my 2 cents nicely worth!!!

...ah...So can I. All you have to do is recognize headlight and taillight patterns to recognize vehicles at night. I'm a car freak though and know makes and models of hundreds of cars, and I'm good at year ranges too. This ability has never aided me in any way, unless I was reporting a crime or accident.

At first I was gonna say, No. Then I saw that you can do it from far away, and I was like, Wow. That's pretty impressive. I mean, spotting cars is one thing. From far away? That's a whole different ball game. Impressive.

I can think of a few instances where that would be very helpful, but it will not be in high enough demand to make a career out of it.
