I've asked questions in yahoo answer and most Christian says the reason "some" of them hate gay ppl are because we CHOOSE to be gay?. If you're straight can you "choose" to be gay?, when you're born can you choose to be male or female?. Forgive me but I can't seem to remember I "choose" to be what I want when I'm born.

For straight people, imagine gay is the "norm" in this world, can you choose to be gay?? can you turn gay if you're threatened?

I think it's because they just don't know otherwise. I'm a Christian but I know for a fact that you don't choose your sexual orientation, because I have a number of gay friends who did not choose it, it's just they way they are, and I like them that way.

I AM A GAY AND A CHRISTIAN OF THE NEW APOSTOLIC FAITH, WHAT I WRITE HERE IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION AND BASICALLY ALSO WHAT MY CHURCH TEACHES ALSO, CHRISTIANS SHOULD JUDGE NO ONE - INCLUDING GAYS, ONLY GOD IS JUDGE, THEY SHOULD GET ON WITH THE FUNDAMENTAL TEACHING OF JESUS CHRIST AND THAT IS JUST IN CASE THEY'VE FORGOTEN, LOVING THEIR NEIGHBOUR, FULL STOP!! 1 JOHN 3:11 "THIS IS THE MESSAGE YOU HEARD FROM THE BEGINNING: WE SHOULD LOVE ONE ANOTHER".

But you know, they sure are preoccupied with all the ways gays have sex. I busted out laughing when I heard a preacher on the TeeVee describing "rimming". Still laugh when I think about it. Had to make sure there weren't any young ones in the room after I heard that......

It doesn't fit the world view presented in their book, although they seem to ignore many of the other ones that would result in stoning children for misbehaving and people who say that the sky god isn't real. It really effects the control over people, that somehow your morals would just go haywire. You'll probably marry a hamster or something.

I think the interesting thing to observe just what the religious are most vocal about. Those are the things that they need to control in order to keep everyone down. Similar types of reactions to evolution. It affects key portions of their belief system and I suppose they think it would cause huge shifts away from that belief system. I often wonder how far it will go before everyday believers just throw up their hands and say enough is enough.

First I'm straight. Second, I'm not a Christian, nor an athiest, nor profess to any religion, although I have PhD's in both ancient and comparative religions.

I also have the distinct advantage of having traveled to what Christians call heaven. Believe this or not, I don't really care.

God loves us all, regardless or whether or not we practice a religion or whether or not we believe He exists. God has made us what we are. We have no choice. All we can do is live the best life we can.

Christians practice their religion but not the teachings of Jesus. They believe that homosexuality is evil and against God's laws. They are simply wrong. They judge others based on their own prejudiced beliefs. They are simply wrong. They believe that anyone who does not share their beliefs will end up in hell. They are simply wrong.

Jesus taught only love and forgiveness. Christians seem to have forgotten this fact. Luckily for them, God will forgive them for their tresspasses.

It is simply a denial of reality and science, which is nothing new for Christians. Bigotry clothed in morality has long been the norm for Christianity. The problem is these Christians cannot simply understand that gay people are biologically, chemically, and psychologically attracted to the same gender.

Please do not lump us all in with the fundamentalists.

I've said repeatedly that I do not believe it's a choice, anymore than I 'choose' to be heterosexual.

The only "choice" we have is to be celibate or not.

Many Christians believe that people choose to sin. They have dogma that teaches that sin is a wilfull turn away from God, and that sin, therefore, is a choice to turn away from God's word. Therefore, because homosexuality, in their eyes is a sinfull act, it must follow that it is a choice.

Most Christians haven't looked into their own scripture well enough to understand that gay sex is nowhere explicitly condemned or called sinful in their Bible. I'll get thumbs down on this answer from people who think differently; from intellectually lazy people who will go to English translations and believe that's what God intended, but few, if any will actually take a look at the original Greek or Hebrew with enough discernment to see that there is truly a great deal of ambiguity in the few verses that are used to condemn homosexuality.

In any case, it is Christians who condemn gay people, not the Bible. The Bible is at worst, ambiguous; at best, silent.

Frankly, I think it matters not if someone chooses to be gay, is born gay, or has a gay summer. I just can't wait until the people who choose to be hateful in the name of some out-of-date religion all die off.

well you have agency, meaning what you choose to do in this life, you can't choose what is inflicted upon you, but you choose how you handle it. just like hate, you don't automaticly hate people, or someone, you choose to hate them, like you choose to love someone else. it's a choice, an action.
