After discovering that the claim that Mary was a virgin when giving birth to Jesus was just a mistranslation for the Hebrew word for "young woman", do you still believe in the virgin birth? If so, who's authority supersedes the bible and tells you that the virgin birth is true, when the bible says nothing about a virgin birth (in its original tongue of course).

Because sex is a sin.

But not in my house.

It was either a mistranslation, a lie or a joke..... Virgin birth is as goofy an idea as there is. It's right up there with creation, an afterlife for dead people and effective prayer.

Think about how many wacko things people have to believe to claim faith and your head will spin in amazement.

It's absurd.

There is no such prophecy in Judaism (and never has been)that the Messiah is to be born of a god and a human virgin. This comes directly from paganism, adopted by the Church. It is NOT found in the Jewish bible, much as the Church has tried to twist it into meaning that.

The Septuagint (the Greek version of the Old Testament) uses the Greek word "parthenos" for the Hebrew word "almah." (In Isaiah 7:14) While it is true that "almah" can mean either virgin or young woman, "parthenos" always means virgin.

Matthew follows suit in his Gospel when he quotes from Isaiah. He uses "parthenos" when describing Mary.

Jesus was still supposedly conceived without intercourse. I can see how that could be called a "virgin birth". In addition, Mary was not yet married, so one could assume she was a virgin.

I don't personally believe that mythology, but can see how the event could still be called a "virgin birth".

Sorry, but the Bible says that Mary never knew a man...and she showed up pregnant. Either way you cut it...there is a reason for God not having two sinful parents. This was so He could place himself in human form as 100 % human and 100% God at the same time.
