I think doctors are saying it's OK now, but really! Why not just skip it? Better safe than sorry considering what's at stake- a glass of champagne vs. your child's well-being.

There is no proof and definitely no study out there that shows how much alcohol is safe during pregnancy... so they just tell you to stay away from it. I went to a grill out last summer and my own doctor happened to be there.. she was about 7 months pregnant at the time... and was drinking a strawberry daquiri. I quietly asked her if that was okay to be doing or if it was non-alcoholic... she said it definitely had alcohol in it and that it's totally fine to have just a little bit every once in a while. I wouldn't drink it every night... and I probably wouldn't do it at all. Ask your doctor at your next visit... My doctor is a very down to earth person and doesn't lecture me about not doing this,or that, she tells me the truth instead of trying to scare me..

If you are in the latter stages of your pregnancy, it won't cause any harm to have one glass, as the brain is formed in the fetus. I had 3 or 4 drinks (total) during my pregnancy - and had a perfect baby who scored 10 on the Apgar.

My OB-GYN told me that it's safe to drink no more than 3 glasses of wine a week. But not all together, like one on Sunday, one on Wednesday, one on Saturday. He'd tell you that 1 glass of bubbly for New Year's is totally OK. And he's a well respected doctor who's delivered hundreds of healthy babies over the years. As someone else said, the reasons for the warnings are people who abuse alcohol. One glass is nothing.

No. I had this detailed answer for you, but I hit the back button and lost it. :( Long story short, you can kill a post-natal infant with just an ounce (or less... depending on the weight) of alcohol. Your baby is even smaller and still developing! Just don't do it. 9 Months isn't long to wait when your baby's safety is concerned.
